Our History
The RAMS originated as a retirement association for members of the department. From 1993 it expanded in this role with more than 250 members, and their partners, participating in a variety of informal activities. Later, it broadened its horizons to welcome applications from all retirees, past and present. Membership has been extended to former members of the Armed Forces, and former contractors/consultants, who spent an appreciable time in the department. As of May 2025, there are over 1200 active members.

How To Join
Full membership of the RAMs is open to all former members of staff. Social membership may be offered to the spouse or partner of a Full Member, the spouse or partner of a deceased former member of staff who did not take up their RAMs membership, and to former members of the armed forces who spent an appreciable part of their service at the Authority, and former contractors or consultants who worked there for at least 5 years. You can apply for membership by filling in this form. A one-off fee of £50 applies.

Rampage
Every quarter, in March, June, September and December, every RAM will receive the Rampage magazine via post unless they opt out. Each edition includes details of events, interesting articles and quizzes and is compiled by a hard working editorial team. The entire back catalogue stretching nearly 30 years can be found here.
Articles, letters, photographs and other items for publication should be emailed to rampage.gcrams@mail.com.
